The Hôtel de la Marine was originally designed by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel and constructed between 1757 and 1774.
It once housed the royal Garde-Meuble, responsible for managing furnishings in all royal properties.

Two ceremonial cannons from the Hôtel de la Marine fired the opening shots at the Bastille during the French Revolution on 14 July 1789.
